Well that area is considered Uptown Manhattan. Washington Heights they call it. Primarily Dominicans, P.R. and Blacks. Just be careful at all times, watch your back and I don't suggest flaunting your equipment out in the street like that if it's not necessary ok? If you see a loud, obnoxious crowd please just walk in the opposite direction and just ignore them.
That's not Washington Heights. 147th and St Nicholas is Harlem in all it's glory. The majority of the people there are black.
If you are careful, and you can just carry your equipment you will be fine. You see people touring and taking pictures of the area very often. There is a lot of great architecture around the area.
St Nicholas and 147th is pretty good. There is activity, and most people in this area are not poor. Not that you cannot get robbed, but I would say no more than you would on 96th and Bway. It has the same amount of activity and economic diversity. It is just that you are in Harlem and a majority of the people are Black.
Do you think the subway is safety at nights? I mean at 9:00 or 10:00. Im a little bit sacred now.. May be i'll travel alone... Thanks a lot.
