Most of Brooklyn is still middle class (Kensington, Gravesend, Bensonhurst, Canarsie, Flatlands, Bayridge, etc.) Brooklyn seems to get a bad rap on these forums. It seems out of towners get the wrong idea about Brooklyn and us native Brooklynites are being stereotyped as being from the hood. Even in the 80s most of Brooklyn was still a decent area.
Yea, you're right. Brooklyn just has a notorious reputation from its past, which is unfair because MOST of NYC was bad during those days.

NYC, for all the roles it's played in the last 100 years, has not often gotten the opportunity to play the role of a stable, middle class comfortable home very often to a mass audience. The media sells it either as being rich&dynamic, or as a huge ghetto. I think that accounts for the stereotypes you are seeing.
