Hostels in New York (Amsterdam: hotel, neighborhoods, areas)

I was thinking about staying in a hostel with one of my friends. i have decide on L Hostel, which i believe is in Harlem the location is 1961 7th Avenue, New York, NY 10026 and Village Inn Hostel which is located at 27 East 7th Street, 10003, New York which I believe is east village.

I wanted to know about these two neighborhoods I don't know anything about neighborhoods in New York so tell me about them. THANKS A BUNCH!!!

I'm not familiar with either one, but I thought I'd mention that there's a hostel in the Times Square areas that gets a lot of press. Other than that, I imagine the 7th Street is a good location.

There's also a large hostel on the Upper West Side, Amsterdam Avenue in the low 100s.

I stayed at the Gershwin Hotel last summer. It's a hostel, around $30 a night I think. It's pretty nice and in a good location.
