The Union is doing the right thing by refusing givebacks, once you give back something to the city,it is gone forever. Layoffs are temporary,GIVEBACKS ARE FOREVER.

There is no guarantee that those who get laid off this summer will come back in 6 months.
You are right about that. From everything I hear it will take 2 years to hire everyone back.

3400 is not possible, just politicking and rhetoric. They say a big number like 1000 lay offs and then 250 get layed off and the union spins it that "only 250 got layed off" to try to make them look better. They face 7bill deficit, the 8500 sanitation workers arent the problem. Like mentioned before, Bloomberg is trying to get reelected and the polls are tight right now, if he starts laying off people, he loses every union's backing.

I know the economy is bad. I wouldnt be suprised that al this talk is politics for him to get union backing. Threaten layoffs and then at the last minute save the jobs and he gets the union vote to look like a hero. There is always backburner discussions and tactics that the public doesnt see. Its never black and white. Thats why its not worth worrying about it. Its out of our hands. Its not like a regular job where they lay off based on performance, its strictly seniority.

I agree 100% with you about this. I dont mind being layed off for the better of the job and keeping unlimited sick and keeping tier 4.

yeh tactics are a good point yeh i heard from someone that he will not layoff as well to help with the votes...but i doubt they will hire for awhile... and say bloomberg gets in with out laying off anyone then maybe layoffs mite happen lol who knows so many different things going on, so many different rumors...we still gotta go to work and while were there we gotta protect this job..one good thing about layoffs is that alotta guys can retire and if they layoff alotta OT goes to those top men (charts 4hrs for baskets etc...)so that could be away to get the old out and get some new blood in here....top off there pensions with some huge figures...---somebody said since were city employees we get 18months unemployment i didnt think it was true? how much do you get?

I was told today by a supervisor that there will be no layoffs. He was told this yesterday at his union meeting. A few other people in my garage heard the same thing. Let's hope that it is true.

Nobody vote for Bloomberg. pass it on. he is no good for DSNY. think twice. just for mentioning the word lay-offs he should lose all city unions support/backing.

I hated Bloomberg since day 1 that he became mayor. I will vote for whomever runs against him. The problem is that there are no strong candidates to run against him. Nobody comes close to his net worth. He can buy votes with his money,he can buy his way into a 3rd term.
