At least my assumption of them going under headcount for awhile appears to be true. I doubt if they would demoted recently promoted supervisors to san workers.

You are correct but this is also what is bad about the union and job. Too many guys taking advantage of these benefits.
I don't know where you worked before but you are supposed to do the work your boss tells you to do, it is called chain of command.
Remember we were being close to being laid off yet you have guys in the garage that should have been fired years ago but the union protected them.
I am glad we have a strong union, but in todays times unions are just there to protect the lazy and useless

The Union protects everybody. Your a good worker who is understandably frustrated with the losers. Every job has them. I would MUCH rather have the management walk on egg shells with us then vice versa. Could you imagine? It's gotten bad enough as it is. We need and deserve control over what's happening to us. We agree to certain work goals but our job is unique in that we have (especially behind the truck) a lot to live up to.
If you want to make it out of here in enough physical shape to enjoy your retirement then your going to need control.

yes i agree about the lazy and the useless and about following an order but if they told u to do both sides of a two way street would you??? or to work during your break?? or to work unsafely in any matter?? all i am saying is that if we didnt have the union they would say do this now or your fired....if we didnt have a union they would have 2000 illegals doing this job instead of us......

Hello brothers and sisters.
I'm new to this forum and found it by accident.
Ive been reading through the posts and its really sad how bad things have gotten. I'm in my 20th year and seen a lot of changes, 8hrs a day in the street, gps tacking systems, coming soon to all districts and so on. I don't know if I'm going to stay or retire, depends on how far down hill things really go. That dam dump money killed a lot of districts due to greed and stupidity. It was great that the union got that money for the districts that were already dumping but the districts that jumped on the chance to make a couple of extra dollars a day ruined the job. Now people are wondering why there might be layoffs. If every district was like QE8, stay out all day and not 1 dump the dept would be so strong. This is the best job I have ever had and I hope things get better. The hammer is about to fall on us with all theses cuts I'm hearing about so lets wake up and do the right thing out there.

We have to stay out for our health. That's the biggest concern. Someone just commented on here that Sanmen did not live long after retirement. It's true. I remember through the years the Union was bigger on this point and they don't mention it as much lately. As recently as 2000 they were telling new guys that the average life span for us in retirement is something like 6 years....does anybody recall that? I might have the number wrong.
It's also true that many guys run it up for all those "pathetic" reasons mentioned. This job has a screwed up self-image. Many morons got on years ago.
I don't know what is going to happen but the weights are down. They are having MLC meetings and they are cutting an average of AT LEAST 10 trucks per week in many garages.
Senior men might have the ability to mess routes up but there are PLENTY of junior guys on the job. There are way more guys with 10 or less then 10 or more years. It takes 2 to tango. If your paired with a guy and you think that it's a tough day runnin' it up and your worried about your future.....
THEN TO HELL WITH THEM. TAKE YOUR TIME. TAKE YOUR BREAKS.
What's seniority mean? NOTHING. What's he gonna do? HIT YOU?!?
Gimme a break. To all the junior guys out there that have tried over the last 5 years to "go with the flow" with these guys....
WAKE UP!!!!!! IT'S AN 8 HOUR JOB. IT'S AN 8 HOUR JOB.
You have rights. You will be real surprised when you stop running how quickly these guys will start scramblin' to figure out what to do. They are nothing without you.
VOTE OUT YOUR SHOP STEWARD if he runs and dumps. Shake 'em up.
I believe that Bloomberg shook Harry's hand last time and said there would be no layoffs.....BUT I AM POSTIVE HE SAID THEY WOULD NOT LAYOFF.
There are still holes in the budget and they have to GET FILLED FROM SOMEWHERE.
My understanding is that Teir 5 was removed from this budget but we will hear about it in the future. Maybe not in it's entirety but probably with the age requirement. A long, long, time ago guys got laid off from I think Teir 1 and were brought back under teir 2....RETIRED SANMAN knows for sure. So I think it unlikely they would try it but it was done before.
The routes WILL BE CUT. That is the other big reason why you should stay out. Attrition will be used to lower head count and this job is gonna get sick. I wish the best of luck for the new guys.
But don't be surprised if you hear about 200 gettin the axe.
WAKE UP ROOKIES. THIS IS YOUR JOB. AND IT'S AN 8 HOUR JOB.

Are you a shop steward? If not, you should be. Everyone should be listening to what youre saying!
If a crew dumps in our district (which rarely ever happens) we chastize them and make them feel like the morons they are. We really lay into them and it works. That makes for a great deterent to others that even try to think about dumpimg.
Your as strong as you weakest link so if you get stuck working with a runner and want to save your job just slow down and keep them out.
