if you took half (retire) and get a job making 25-30k . would you end up taking home more ?

I spoke to a friend of mine that is a retired NYPD seargant. He keeps insisting that we are not going to get laid off. His main reasoning is that it is an election year and that would be terrible for Bloomberg. He keeps telling me that we are going to hear rumors similar to what we are hearing now for the next 20 years.
Maybe somebody that posts on here and has a good amount of time on the job may be able to determine if this makes sense.

I feel sorry for the guys who never got even a small education or special trainning to get a semi decient job or lived in a box and don't know someone or at least a friend of a friend to get a job when they retire....

So Epyon, you have really noticed a significant increase in retirement applications? Is it noticeable enough to think it may prevent layoffs and maybe even have another class sometime this year? I'm in the lower 500's just like you and can hardly take another day at my current job.

I second that. I'm in the lower 800's and would love to get hired even if I were to be layed off right away. at least I would know I'm comming back.
