What part of NY are you searching for roommates in? I am looking for housing up there now.

Craigslist is good, especially since you can search through the ads for keywords, i.e. if you wanted to live with someone of a similar faith you can search for the word "christian" within the ads.
Roommates.com offers free registration, to see pictures and detailed information you need to pay. They have a three day trial for 6 bucks.
I'm looking currently and it's worth the extra dough to at least give roommates.com a shot.
cheers.

yea, craigslist is where I'm trying to find an apartmentmate right now, and it's how I found my place right now. I'm not sure how you'd do it from a distance though since it's better to see the place and its surroundings in person.

Craigslist is the way to go. These classifieds-type websites are only as good as the people posting on them, and most people use Craigslist.
