Default Franklin/Bedford Avenues in Brooklyn

As I am currently looking for an apt, I keep seeing lots of postings for apts on Franklin Ave and apts on Bedford Avenues. Could you pls tell me what parts of these two streets to avoid for a 30-something female? Have a small dog so I would be walking her at night too.

Specifially:

1. How is Franklin near Pacifc? (Looks good on Google maps)
2. Bedford at Fulton? (Doesn't look too great but maybe the surrounding side streets are better?)
3. Franklin and Montgomery?

Thanks!!!

franklin ave near pacific is cool, a little deserted

bedford ave at fulton is congested, as fulton is a busy street

franklin and montgomery = no good thats by ebbets field and that part of franklin ave south of eastern pkwy gets rowdy

So by deserted do you mean deserted as unsafe or just not much to do around there? I ask as when I look on Google Maps it looked like nice buildings, etc.

And on the Google Map for Bedford/Fulton it looked quite deserted but yes, I figured lots of people since Fulton is there. Would you consider this area unsafe/undesirable?

Thanks!!!

Default Oops

I meant Franklin and Monroe (not Montgomery). How is this area? When I google it the picture appears fine, however, obviously that can be misleading.

Thanks!

i mean as in not much to do....but there's not a lot of pedestrian traffic. bedford and fulton is not the worst but definitely not he best. your worst problem would the the crackheads late at night, because for some reason, that strech of fulton from franklin ave to vanderbilt still has a vast amount of crackheads liek its still the '80s.

1- Franklin near Pacific is an area that is in the midst of a transformation. A lot of new people have moved in but the area still appears a little rough too me. Between the stretch of Franklin between Atlantic and Eastern Parkway, a lot of new restaurants have opened up. Off hand, there is a new Pizza parlor called A Slice of Brooklyn, an Indian Restaurant, an African restaurant (I believe) that has live entertainment on some days during the week. Off of St. John's and Franklin there is a beer garden called Franklin Park, and I believe they are opening up an extension to it on Franklin Ave between St. John's and Lincoln. Not a bad area and it is more diverse then it has been in many, many years. The only thing that I can actually say would give me pause is that Atlantic (which is one block from Pacific) is deserted at night since it is not a residential block and the Bedford Armory is one block away on Atlantic and Bedford.

2 - Bedford and Fulton is not too bad. There is a small block that shots off from Fulton Street in that area that is pretty nice as well as some of the surrounding blocks. Very commercial on Fulton Street so during the day it is congested. Seventh mentioned that you may find some drug users roaming around in the evening which may be a concern but it is nowhere near what it was during the 80's or 90's. I think, and I may be wrong, that there may be some issues with that around Halsey and Bedford. I also think that there is a YMCA somewhere in that area on Bedford.

3 - Franklin and Monroe appears to be pretty quiet. A lot of nice blocks and I have not heard of anything happening over there.

All in all, anyone of those spots should be okay depending on your tolerance level and it is hard to state which would be better since they all have plus and minuses. Best of luck.

Like all the posters said, Franklin Avenue is less than desirable. Unless you want to be kept up at night by noise, especially in the summer months. I would refrain from moving anywhere around Franklin. Check into the crime rate for those areas and that should deter you. Near Pacific is the Bedford Armory which is a men homeless shelter. During the day these men walk the streets as the shelter is emptied. Take a drive by Franklin and Montgomery and see the action for yourself. I think you need to visit these places during the day and at night and tour the community to see if its livable for you. Everyone tolerance level is different.
