Hello All,

I would love advice with this. The only part of the BX I am familar with is the NorthEast BX, which is pretty decent. My question is ...are there any other areas in the BX which are safe, and inexpensive-moderatly priced? I am perfectly fine with living in a somewhat "gritty area" (I currently live in lower Westchester) just nothing extreme like weekly shootings or drugs all around. I am looking for a 2br priced between $1050-1300. Also does anyone know where else I can search for an apartment. Craigslist isn't much help. Thank you for your help

Parkchester, Pelham, Morris Park. Those are a start.

Pelham Parkway is safe and moderately priced. It is also very diverse, very green( the parkway itself, the zoo and botanical garden in Bronx park),has an East Side and a West Side subway( 2,5) and has a very diverse and vibrant commercial district with bigger national stores and many, many mom and pop and ethnic stores,24 hour grocery stores delis and diners. There are Kosher butchers and bakeries,Italian butchers and bakeries,Albanian restaurants and coffee shops, chinese restaurants, mexican restaurants, etc.
You can probably find a big renovated 2 br with a separate DR and new bath and kitchen for 1,200/mo.

Also look at Woodlawn, Throggs Neck, Pelham Bay, Bedford Park, Kingsbridge, Parkchester, Arthur Avenue (Belmont). They have varying degrees of accessibility to public transportation and commute to Manhattan...so take that into consideration.

Try Co op City. It's one of the better communites in the Bronx. Here are my pros & cons:

PROS:
-Utilities included.
-Generally quiet neighborhood & neighbors.
-Mostly middle class people, blacks, latinos, few Russians & Asians.
-Lot's of community activies.
-Some good schools.
-Lot's of shopping, all in walking distance.
-Parking garages.
-Express bus service.
-Co op City police department

CONS:
-You have to take a bus to get to the closest subway lines.
-The kids will hangout a lot, especially in the summer.
-The people who live here are not as upstanding as they used to be, but still not the worst ghetto trash.
-This coincides with the above; the biggest shopping center Bay Plaza attacts ghetto people to the area.

All in all, it's better than most other places in the Bronx and not many people know about it- I think. Hope that helps some!

I think the OP is looking to rent, not buy.

Co-Op city apartments are RENTALS? Not according to any of the available information I've found. But whatever...
