Hello, I am moving with my husband and daughter to NYC in the fall for an employment opportunity. We will both be working in the Chelsea area- and were wondering what areas would be most beneficial to live with our 4yr old (schools, museums, etc.), and our commute. We are looking at the upper west side, and chelsea. Any thoughts?

We need more information: are you looking to rent or buy? What is your budget? How long a commute are you willing to have? Do you need good public schools?

Sure. We are looking to rent- our budget is 4K per month or less. Being near a good public school is first priority, commuting is not much of an issue- although it would be nice to be as close to Chelsea as possible. Thanks for your help.

Unfortunately, in NYC these days, moving to a good school district is not a guarantee that there will be a place for your child. Given that, you might want to look outside of Manhattan for a place. But, if you DO want to be in Manhattan, the UWS is nice - it's going to be tight on that budget (and remember, you have to have 40x the monthly rent in annual salary) for a 2 BR. But the commute to Chelsea is a snap from there. Just a few stops on the subway.

Given that UWS seems to be synonomous with the term "Stroller Brigade"- I think it might be a good fit for our daughter, and us. Thank you. Also- any "second best" area suggestions would be most appreciated, and helpful...
