Well.. it's possible that the shooting was never reported, and a large crowd formed after, and that was reported.

Do You Think That the Crime Stats are Fake??
I don't know... I think the stats are fake just to make the city look safe for tourism. A good website for real stats is www.spotcrime.com

The 2 are unrelated. The first one was friday landlord shot the tenant in the head for not paying rent for 4 months. Personal.
The second one on 174 was probally just dumb beef. The dudes on that corner are definatly a hybrid(all colors) but they take themselves a little too seriously. Cant stand when someone tries to get hard on you over a dime bag. I stopped going to them cuz they think they are so hard.
Graffitti is WAYYYYYY up tho. Past month or so really. I think this weekend i will be getting some of the kids together just to paint this one wall, it was clean for a few months but now its all tagged, along with a church that someone wrote please respect, and was respected and clean for about the same period of time.

I dont really think the block is bad, but anything that runs up next to the CBE will be shady, due to the ease of which clients can jump on off the highway. Also BR projects are 2 blocks away, and the other building are no picnic either.
Im just worried because the next crop of kids(who right now are mostly good kids) no might have more validation to "go hard". been a year and change i lived there and seriously only heard gunshots twice.

I have to say in comparison to years past, and even recent years, it has been unusually quiet in the Mott Haven area. There was a group of kids hanging out though Friday night and getting rowdy but the cops came within 5 minutes and broke it up (as they always do)....end of story. And there was a dude waiting on my steps to visit a Tenant, and the cops quickly rolled up and asked the who/what/why. So they are definitely being very proactive, and I believe that is a part of why crime continues to go down, despite the usual high-profile/news headline stuff.

Yes it was some crazy dude with a gun trying to shoot his girlfriend..no surprises there or anything new. You associate with people who like to carry guns/drug deal...that's 80% of the people who are killed in NYC, so what do you think is gonna happen? There is not alot of random violence.....no matter what neighborhood you are in....if you are not chilling with the drug dealers, or hanging with the homeys at the bodega at 3am, or chillin with your crew in the housing projects, you have VERY LITTLE chance of anything happening to you in NYC. If you use your brain and common sense..you won't have a problem.

That is not true KRS...there was a period of about 25 years, 1970-1995 where there was ALOT of random violence that fueled much of the exodus and ultimate deterioration of many neighborhoods across the city. The reason why it is safer across the board is because much of the random violence is gone, and the vast majority of victims are those that are involved in the drug trade. So TODAY the reality is if you stay away from the drug dealers, you will be ok no matter where you are, in general.
