I think that crime dropped because there are more police going around. NYC was not like it used be before. Not to go off the time range but in the 80s NYC was really bad. Before, the Bronx was called the Jungle. The Bronx used to be the worser county in the whole US. Also, Harlem was very bad. But now since there are more police. NYC has gotten better.

I'd say this hits it pretty well. There are so many cops assigned to the Bronx and upper Manhattan, it's a lot harder to just run around committing crime everywhere. This obviously doesn't solve all of the problems, but it did at least factor in to cutting down on it.

I don't think its worth the trouble in that case, especially if your going to be working in NYC. It's further away and more of a hassle to get into the city (Manhattan). The LIRR is overpriced and can be very unreliable in bad weather. Plus as some have pointed out, crime wise, certain sections of Nassau are just as bad if not worse than many neighborhoods in Queens.
I feel safer in many parts of the city than here in Nassau. Even in the subways, the people seem alot more behaved and I generally feel safer on the subway than riding the buses here in Nassau.

Many parts of Nassau look just like Corona or worse, try Hempstead, Westbury, etc

I would say more than anything it was the end of the crack epidemic. By the early 90's it was petering out. There were several reasons, to lay it all on one thing wouldn't be fair. But the biggest one IMO was the end of the crack epidemic.

I agree and also since the end of the crack epidemic that drug economy in nyc shifted into a larger, less competitive, marijuana based economy where alot more money could be made with less competition.

I think that much of the decline during that period had to do with the ending of the crack epidemic, coupled with increased enforcement of street crime at all levels.

To add to that, less violent competition. Drug dealers realized that knocking people off was bad for business, because it brought unnecessary heat to their blocks, and caused less sales to be made.

Yep thats why NYC is the easiest place in the country to buy weed because everybodys knows somebody who sells, anybody can get as much weed as they want and police have no clue because they do it so smoothly.

To go even further, police won't bother with petty amounts.. so unless they know about a huge sale in advance, they won't bother to do anything about it.
