The data does not reflect this summer.

No, I said I concede to you for now because I need to do more research on it (I do know there is much million dollar real estate in the stuy and surrounding areas...which I will prove shortly).

Wow, I NEVER said any of that. My argument is that Harlem has some of the cities most dangerous neighborhoods, point blank period.

I didn't say this either. I said ACCORDING TO THE FBI it was the most dangerous NEIGHBORHOOD in the city (which is TRUE) and the 17th most dangerous in the U.S. (which it actually is the 18th, minor irrelevant mistake on my behalf...the facts still stand). Then I added that IN MY OPINION (meaning based on that alone, and not "stats"...just my personal research and experiences) St. Nicholas is top 10 worst in the city. You're running out of an argument is leading to many misquotes now.

All are compared to city-wide, state-wide, and nation-wide averages for comparison.
This means that they are predicting the chance of a crime happening to someone, based on the total population per square mile.
First, Predicting and an actual crime is not the same thing. So this means that crime rate is not ACTUAL crime statistics which is what I was telling you to find, but is a PREDICTION. PREDICTION = POSSIBILITY NOT ACTUAL!!
Second, they are looking at a very small area with a low population. The areas I keep mentioning in Brooklyn and the Bronx would not make this list because they are larger and have more people.
What this means is that even if their crime numbers are higher than Harlem, the fact that they have a higher population. According to the methodology of this poll, this would in turn drop their percentage even though their crime is higher.
So before you go pointing out some poll and saying that it is absolutely correct, look at the methodology that was used and then apply it to real life facts. This is basic statistics you learn in college. You cannot believe everything you read but you have to look at everything from every angle.
Thanks again. I'm done.

LOL Uhhhhh...No
First of all, it would be nice if you didn't quote out of context. Let's check out the whole methodology part that you negleted to post for everyone :

What are your credentials Vitalove, or are we still going off your non fact based theories and opinions (For the record (when concerning scholarship), big time schools and PHDs mean nothing to me)? I'm just saying, sounds pretty legit and reliable to me, now we'll see what everyone else has to say. This man has way more knowledge and experience than you in this category, I think I'll go with the doc on this one .

It should be noted that the area that the list described as "Harlem" was a small portion of the neighborhood.

Bohz, boyz, can't we all just get along? lol
OK, I took a peek at the Wallet pop thing, and it made me feel much safer about being a NY'er, as the only mention of NYC was one STREET in Harlem. One street. In Harlem.
Not even hoods, but streets. Makes me feel sorry for those in Cincinatti, both for the crime rate and because, well, they live in Cincinatti.
I think I'll take my chances here in the bad ol Bronx.
As far as Brooklyn, there's been an awful lot of crime activity going on there, daily.
Harlem? Well, it's part of Manhattan and Manhattan is mostly "gentrified" by default. The economic downturn has derailed things a tad, but I think we will start to see some recovery in this area soon.
When my gnarly area is starting to make inroads, I think that bodes well for the city as a whole. And crime always goes up in the summer.
I took statistics many ages ago (hated it lol) but yes, stats can be manipulated every which way. And IMO nothing beats the actual experience of living in the area to get a real sense of what's going down.

But it is clearly focused on a small area in Harlem with a small population. You cannot take this and say this is true for all of Harlem nor that it is entirely accurate.
People really need to learn and understand what statistics are and how to analyze and comprehend them completely. I can find any statistical report and manipulate it, that doesn't mean it is accurate or the truth.

Ya but for the average person who hears "Harlem" they are going to lump it all together and it will be irrelevant. Im ask a lot of people about Harlem and they will answer as if it is is a giant crime infested area whether the be true or not.
Also am I the only one who finds it ironic there was a shooting within the mast dangerous neighborhood list area?

This is my last post in reference to this "poll" and its attributes.
For one, Justfarr, you repeatedly said that according to your stats Harlem was the top 10 worst city in the area. Now you concede that it is your opinion. Just like you disagree with my opinion, I disagree with yours.
That poll was not conducted by any scientist it was compiled by a website and used numbers from the FBI to create their own list according to their own methodology. Reading and understanding is fundamental.
To Zac, a shooting did happen in the St. Nicholas area of Harlem. But it has also happened in Bed Stuy and East New York, which are neighborhoods that I pointed out were more dangerous than all of Harlem. Neighborhoods like Ft Greene and Clinton Hill, which are supposed to be so much better than Harlem---but which are most similar to Harlem in attributes---also had two major shootings/attacks in that neighborhood just the other day. What does that say? Does that make them any more or less dangerous than Harlem? What is your point?
For the last time I am not saying that Harlem does not have crime but I am saying that it is unreasonable and unfair to judge one full neighborhood east of about 5 miles north and 3 miles east to west, by a 3 block radius of activity. If that isn't naive and ignorant I don't know what is.
Thank you DDHboy for seeing what I was saying.
Lastly, I am not a man and I am very educated with a graduate degree. A degree in which I had to study advanced statistics and I see have a better understanding of it than some (not all) of the people here. Not that that matters much to the person who questioned this.
Good day all and God Bless NYC!

Just a question has the Lower East Side/Alphabet City been fully gentrified? What about Washington Heights/Inwood?
