IN NY Post's police blotter, it mentions murders in Crown Heights and Far Rockaway.
Those stories you posted, zac14, are very sad.

Gunfire erupted in Crown Heights Thursday, snuffing out the life of a young man, police said yesterday.
The bullets started flying at 10:30 p.m. when a thug pumped bullets into the victim's back, stomach and leg on St. John's Place and Albany Avenue.
The shooter, whose motive was unknown, ran off. The victim, in his 20s and whose name was withheld pending family notification, died at Kings County Hospital.
The Rockaways were marred by bloodshed early yesterday when a teenager was shot dead, police said.
A gunman shot the 19-year-old victim in the head for unknown reasons on Beach 54th Street at 3:20 a.m., cops said.
The victim, whose name was withheld pending family notification, died at Jamaica Hospital. The shooter fled.

I think the crime will be go down for 2009
check this: New York City Homicides Map - The New York Times
Compared to the last year we have 84 fewer homicides than the same period last year.
From 2003 to Now, we have 3488 murders.

It's really weird, but when I see the police blotter in the dailies they almost never ever mention the Bronx. I think that's far from coincidental...after all, there's lots of positive publicity about the Bronx now. When it comes to the media, perception is reality. It's not only what they print, but what they dont that shapes what others know and believe.
There's a local Bronx weekly paper (The Bronx Times?) that has a police blotter for each precinct. But the police blotter for the Daily News? or NY Post? I think it's the News....has stuff for Brooklyn and Manhattan but I'd say I've almost never, ever seen anything for the Bronx.

Infamous92 and KRS88, don't even trip over that NYTimes cause they haven't updated it for at least 2 weeks. It's been that same number of homicides for a long time, even the nyc gov stats are higher than that. I don't know if the staff just quit doing it or someone advised them to stop.
Checked out Gothamist and every borough got a little bit of everything. I see there's a shooting in LES: it's kinda funny this is about the third time I see something pop this month in that area. There's also two shootings in South Bronx, one shooting and two stabbings in Harlem, one in South Jamaica, and a couple in BK.
Elvira Black, you bring up an interesting point. Just a month ago, you had no problem seeing all the happenings in BX in the new and blotters. Now it seems like they barely mention it as if the borough's improving as far as crime goes though this is far from truth especially for SB. This is the article that talks about the shootings in Mott Haven this month: http://www.bronx.com/news/crime/472.html
