A lot of early morning shootings I see.. So much for the "late night is the only bad time" theory.

It's not only what they print, but what they dont that shapes what others know and believe.
There's a local Bronx weekly paper (The Bronx Times?) that has a police blotter for each precinct. But the police blotter for the Daily News? or NY Post? I think it's the News....has stuff for Brooklyn and Manhattan but I'd say I've almost never, ever seen anything for the Bronx.

You're right.
As the old saying goes, perception IS reality. The FACT is that images (whether people know it to be true or not) are VERY powerful. If you constantly portray a certain image to an audience then subconsciously they will internalize it and thus it manifests into the individuals reality. That is the purpose the media serves for the powers that be.

There is NO WAY that with all the violence this year that we have 84 less homicides than last LOL. Mayor Goonberg and Comm. Ray KKKelly are doing a great job with their stat manipulation but they took it to another level this time. From 1999-2009, this is probably the most deadly and violent year (since 99-01 time frame) and they're trying to pull this Mod cut: languageoff? All you have to do is pay attention and you can see how violence and crime has been on the rise (unless you live in some nice condo up by central park west or you're trying to sell real estate).
The bottom line is that Compstat numbers game has crushed any real chance of getting serious work done in against crime in the city, thanks to former Mayor Ghouliani .

Checked out Gothamist and the shootings occured in, mostly, the usual places: Mott Haven, LES, a couple in Bed-Stuy etc.
It's pretty funny how the LES has been gentrified so much yet these past few weeks it's been a couple shootings in that area, particularly Alphabet City/Loisaida.

Well, it makes sense if you think about it. Gentrification ADDS people to the neighborhood.. it doesn't, and can't take away people who live in the projects.. and I'm not saying that all people from the projects are bad, but a lot of those areas have problems with crime in the projects.. so why would this change after gentrification?

Well gentrification add AND takes away people. I definitely didn't expect it to change because as you said, it's too much projects, it's still a lower income area with a lot of issues, and plus no matter how many condos they put up that neighborhood will always look grimey. I was just talking about media pushing the whole gentrified word when it comes to LES even renaming it to East Village as if it's a new safe haven and it's clearly not.

Yea, the only thing I wanted to add is that it does take out people, but my point is there's certain people that it just can't take out.. and that includes some people who really need their housing, and some people who probably don't deserve to have housing at all.
