Hi -

i'm considering moving to an apartment in Murray Hill (Queens), which is a little on the eastern side of flushing. i'm a female planning to live alone, so safety is a big question right now. i love the apartment, but know little to nothing about the neighborhood. If anyone can shed some light on how safe the area is, i'd really appreciate it.

Thanks!

Went to junior high over there way way back and also have friends living in the area which i dont talk to anymore... There is mucho MS-13 degenerates around so be careful if you do move there. These mexicans will most likely harass you but not hurt you if your a girl. If your a guy they'll probably mess with you a little depending on how your dressed/look. Other than that there are a lot of koreans drinking at the karaokes there almost every night. If your not an asian male you'll be fine. However if your chinese or korean don't be surprised if they start instigating. And no I am not exaggerating anything here. I hung out with all different types of crowds doing all sorts of different things when I was a kid around that area.

can you elaborate on this? what types of things have happened to east asian males in the murray hill area? racial taunts? people being assaulted? are you sure that the perpetrators are MS-13 members or other latino gangsters? regardless, why do you think east asian men are being specifically targeted?

there have definitely been racial incidents in recent years in which east asian males were the victims, but the ones that made the news mainly involved chinese deliverymen getting attacked in or around flushing meadows park - and that's something that isn't restricted to flushing or nyc in general. there was also that incident when some young chinese-american guys were beaten up while racial slurs were directed at them, but the perpetrators were white and the events took place in douglaston.

Lol Murray Hill = dangerous haha. It's not dangerous at all. There's MS-13 all over NY, and they wont mess with you if you're smart and don't mess with them.

Don't sleep (meaning don't walk around like you're in candyland). Its still NYC. Why don't you check out http://www.city-data.com/neighborhoo...ushing-NY.html There's alot of illegal immigrants and young youth who are very angry, very poor (considering the neighborhoods on the north and east that surrounds them) with what is known as the asian-invasion(no jobs, and nothing to do with their idle time etc...). In the summer you will see "hood drama" going down.

This monrning June 5 2009 around 11:AM a snitch was being chased by another man with a knife. The unarmed man ran into the 109th precinct where police shot the man with the knife.

Ask any one around Flushing (who isnt asian) and they will tell you there are alot of mentaly disturbed people in Flushing.
