The average hipster can't stand being farther than a 5-10 minute subway ride into Manhattan so that keeps them in neighborhoods like Williamsburg and Park Slope.

You're right about how they stick to certain areas. But in my neighborhood it's gotten, in my standards, borderline sick. The last time I went home (I live at college in Westchester), which was this past weekend, everyone who got off the train was young, white, and dressed all hip and s**t -- and this was not always the case, not even 4 or 5 years ago. They used to be just yuppies who would get off at Park Slope and Windsor Terrace! Now it's a veritable cornucopia of people I love to hate. Granted, it was 1am and therefore it was a party crowd, but still. I just stood there dumbfounded and...hurt. But that's just me, I guess.

"New York is high crime". Give us a break, Linda P!
What a shame that so many people still feel like playing with the old, misinformed stereotype of a crime-ridden New York. Specially when they live close to the city. How come they don't know about the new New York?
For your information, Linda P, there's more crime in Long Island than in New York City. And San Diego's crime rate, while low, is higher than NYC's.
Let us state the obvious once again and see if sticks to some people's discourse.

I know the feeling. I took the PATH train from Hoboken a couple of weeks back and I felt like I was the only non-hipster on the train. Everyone else was 20/30 and all decked out in designer clothes.
I have relatives who used to work in Hoboken back in the day and they still can remember when it was still a regular town. Man has that changed.

Thanks a lot everyone.
Its a tough decision. If NYC had the SD weather, this was a no-brainer.
One comment: I did research about universities and the programs, which is the reason why Fordham and SDSU are my highest prirorities.
