Union Square? (New York, York: rent, neighborhoods, place to live)

I loved it. I go there alot. Anybody know who the robotic gold cowboy is? That guy is awesome. I am moving to New York to start another project there. I heard Queens is the cheapest place to live. I think I can do rent there.

I don't think Queens is the most affordable place to live.It is probably The Bronx, much of Brooklyn and Staten Island. Queens is probably 2nd to Manhattan on the expensive scale... except for the yuppified neighborhoods of Brooklyn which are still a relatively small area of the borough.

Eh, I can't agree with that. Neighborhoods in Queens that are equal to neighborhoods in Brooklyn in terms of amenities are pretty much similar in price.

Union Square is a great place to hangout, because there are a lot of people always there. However, to live? umm I don't think thats a great place to live.

my buddy lives on 15th & 3rd Ave, its a great area to live! you got the skaters, farmers market on the weekend, good bars/lounges, virgin and irving plaza. what more do you need? even jack tripper would love it.

i'll be there this weekend.

If you friend lives on 15th and 3rd....it means he never sleeps, because the amount of noise in that area 24/7 is completely out of control Not only do you have the congestion, nonstop honking and traffic from cabs, but you have tractor trailers coming in from 2-4am every night to restock whole foods and trader joes. You also have enormous numbers of people/drunks swarming the area 24/7...so although it is a nice place to hang out...it is NOT a place to live (unless you never want to sleep!).

he's fine. his apt is set away from the street. it's perfectly livable. i've slept there many a nite. its not as bad as peope perceive. and the people drunk are primarily on the weekends. if you need to sleep just close the window and crank up the A/C.

i lived on 15th & 6th Ave for yrs - 1st floor on the street side. i slept like a baby .

Irving place is awesome. quiet with gramercy park uptown a bit yet steps to union sq and the east village.

Sorry bub but I don't believe that his apt his quiet. I also lived for a short time on 15th and 3rd, right on the corner..and it was CRAZY loud 24/7....it was shocking..and that was with the windows closed and tv on. And in the middle of the night when the trucks came through..WOW...not only were the trucks extremely loud on their own, when they would hit the holes/bumps in the street..the numerous crashing sound would reverberate through the building and jolt you out of a coma. And those same crashes that you get from the trucks, are the same crashes you get from cars/cabs...any pot hole or manhole cover that was loose would be your worst enemy every time a car drove over it...which was every 3 seconds. Believe me...Union Square is fun to visit and hang out, which is why everyone goes there..but you DO NOT want to live there.

^^ i don't know guy, maybe you had a bad experience. but i still believe that the majority of US is perfectly fine. every street west of US, including 14th street, is peaceful 90% of the time. and like adambos said, irving place is very quiet. and grammercy park is a delight.
