City Island is great except for the traffic getting on and off but a nice fun place to be in summer.
Can't you use street view on google maps ?

I don't think you've been to too many fishing towns in New England. It's not like the rest of the city, but it's certainly NOT like anything on Nantucket or the Cape.

i havent, but the atmosphere reminds me of that when you throw in all the marinas, whaling museum, seafood restaurants and the small bridge you take to get over there. its the closest thing NYC has that resembles new england however, i dont think there's any dispute with that. i have been to cape cod, not nantucket for the record.

Its as close to a seaside New england town that you will find anywhere in NYC..so I think thats the best way to describe it. Is it identical to Nantucket? NO..but it is MORE like Nantucket than NYC. It is an okay place...1 day is more than enough time to spend there....its tiny and really not much to do..and the residents prefer it that way. However, if you like bike riding it is adjacent to the largest park in NYC, Pelham Bay Park, lots of bike trails, BBQing, Horseback Riding, and a plethora of beach/park amenities like basketball courts, beach, nature trails, bird watching, etc.
