So we currently live in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago and are thinking of moving to NYC. My husband would have a job that would afford us approx $4000 a month for rent. We could afford to go higher but would rather spend the difference on a summer rental out of the city and if needed private school.

We are looking for the most "bang for our buck"..so to speak. Safety is of concern as we have a preteen daughter. With only 3 of us we would like a 2 bedroom or larger. We have no trouble getting around via subway, buses and cabs as we have lived in downtown Chicago.

With all this we are totally confused as to what to do. We actually have stayed in the Financial District before and have found some amazing deals there. Obviously there is a lack of grocery stores and night life but we can live without this. Or should we go for less space and closer to things.

Any and all suggestions are helpful and appreciated.
