Electric Code question
In a multiple dwelling building do the hallway lights always need to be on by law?
My hall ways are naturally lit during the day and lights are not needed, yet my tenants always have them on and its jacking up my electric bill. I was wondering if I can install sensor sockets to cut down on the bill or is this against the code?
Thanks

its a little more complicated than just leave the lights on....
the lights can be put on motion sensors providing at least 2 foot candles of illumination is on all the time..... you can get hall fixtures that provide the min amount of light with 1 lamp and go to full brightness when motion is detected.....
you can check out LAMAR LIGHTING for some examples of fixtures that have built in sensors , all nyc approved

Or you can go a step beyond CF bulbs. LED bulbs that fit in standard sockets are starting to become available and draw even less power than CF. The ones I saw were approximately 1W, versus ~13W for CF and 60W for standard incandescent.
