Hi I am wanting to flatshare with somebody when I move to NYC where is a good place to start looking for a room in an apartment. I would love to live in Manhatten although I hear its expensive. Where else is safe, reasonably priced and still central?

Many folks have recommended www.craigslist.com. But be aware that there are many many ads on here. Good luck.

As far as your request for safety & central... it is all relative to what you are willing to spend.

I recommend the upper east side in manhattan, brooklyn heights in brooklyn, or astoria in queens.

When I needed an apartmetn share years ago I used and agency called Roomate Finders--they hooked me up with 2 other girls and we split a 3 bedroom 2 bath duplex in the 50s. Look them up

The Upper West Side is also a good neighborhood. My family used to live there a few years back and they regret moving from there.
