My husband works in Wilton, CT and we would like to move to any of the NY surrounding areas within 30-45 min drive: Here's the catch. We would like to buy a house 4 bd, 1.5 bth for under $450k. It's that realistic? No capes please.
What areas would you recommend? Of course we will need good schools, diverse communities, etc. |

If your lucky I might say you might find a house like that in Putnam county. Check on the eastern Putnam, although i think Western Putnam is cheaper. Carmel might have what you are looking for. I highly doub Westchester will have it.

I would suggest looking in Yorktown (Westchester) and Carmel/Mahopac (Putnam). The drive to/from Wilton will be more like 45-55 min, but you will be able to find houses in your price range.

Why do you want to be in New York if your husband works in CT? It will just mean having to pay additional taxes. I am pretty sure you could find a house you describe in one of the towns surrounding Danbury. May I suggest Brookfield, New Fairfield, Bethel or Newtown. Not sure what you are looking for exactly, but these are nice towns with good schools. Plus these towns are a lot more affordable than Westchester County. Just a suggestion. Jay

It's possible to find something there ... but why NY? There are areas in CT that you could buy and still have that kind of commute. |
