Exclamation Relocating to Brooklyn for BC-CUNY. Please Help!Neighborhoods

Hi everyone!

I will soon be relocating to Brooklyn, to attend Brooklyn College in Midwood. I am not familiar with the area, and have only been around Coney Island and Williamsburg.

I would like to live close to campus, but i think Midwood may be a bit too quiet for me. However, I also dont want to live too far. I am also married, 24, and Russian.

Any reccomendations? I have checked out more of Greenpoint, Williamsburg, Bushwick, Prospect Heights, and carroll Gardens. Anything price wise reasonable? Also what are the neighborhoods like in these places? I have not been able to find out much, via the web, or wikipedia.

I would definitely tell you that Bushwick is a no no. I grew up there. People might try to argue but I can tell you for fact Bushwick has alot of punks there who will break into your car and house when you are not around. Midwood is good area and has alot of families, Prospect Park South is an okay area and is as close to Brooklyn College as you can get. Williamsburg, Carroll Gardens, and Prospect Heights are farther from Brooklyn College, but they are much safer than Bushwick. would stick with Midwood and the Prospect Park South area. Greenpoint is alright neighborhood but it is the farthest from Brooklyn College.

As far as restaurants there are Nino's, Fontana Bella, Sea Dolphin, Taci's Beyti Turkish Restaurant, Grille de Paris, Tamarind Tree, and on Avenue J there are a bunch of delis, pizzerias. On Avenue O there are Turkish restaurants too. The neighborhood is very pedestrian friendly and Psopect Park is nearby. The Subway takes about 30-40 minutes to Midtown Manhattan. There are a few different subway lines and also there is express bus service to Manhattan. Here is an article about Midwood.

Midwood is very diverse and full of all kinds of ethnic groups. There are Jews, Eastern Europeans, Chinese, Indians, Pakistanis, some Irish and Italians, Russians, Albanians, Greeks, etc. so yes it is very ethnic. Lots of different types of foods.

Bensonhurst is a good neighborhood. Not too many apartments though mostly single and multifamily homes. Alittle far from Manhattan for my tastes but closer than other parts of Brooklyn. It is not as close to Brooklyn College as Midwood and Prospect Park South .It is pretty ethnic, it about half Italian but also has lots of Chinese, Russians, Albanians, etc. Most of the food there is Chinese or Italian.

Arrow RE final question!

Ahhh, one more question!! Regarding apartments/transport in Midwood!!

I am not near NY at the moment, and will only have several weeks before I start school to be there and look, but I wanted to ask, since I am pretty much basing my decision at Midwood now.

What is the main subway line there? So I can get to school easily (BC) and also get to Manhattan rather quickly as well?

Finally, how are the apartments? Since I will be looking for studio/1 bdrm. I am looking for an apt. feel like Williamsburg has, with fire escape ect....

Subway D, F, and Q services the area. It is close to Brooklyn College. Buses 11, 6, 7, 68, and 29 serve the area also. Here is the MTA website

MTA Home Page

Midwood rents ranges from $700 to $3000 based on the size of the apartment. People live here because they found an apartment or home for a good price they wanted. Most of the residential are single family homes. However their might be some apartments to rent nearby. Check the internet for apartments and rentals in zip codes 11210, 11230, 11203, and 11226.
