chinese "mafia" (triads) are active in Chinatown and many parts of nyc
to be specific most are Fukinese from Fujian province
a lot of businesses deal with them (buses, truck companies, restaurants, etc)

things have changed a whole lot though since the 80's to late 90's but most crimes are still unreported

Post Mafiosi

The mafia is sicilian/italian. Sick and tired of everyone saying mafia. Russian Mafia [Bratva]; Japanese Mafia [Yakuza]; Chinese Mafia [Triads]. Cosa Nostra is Italian/American. This has changed; the 5 families are Colombo, Amato, Marasco, Bonanno, and Lucchese.
