Does this sound legit?
Theres a studio I'm interested in on 45th and 6th, its going for $1450.
And because my grantor is out of state, theyre asking for 3 months deposit + first months rent upfront. I'm a student, so I need a grantor.
The building is supposed to have laundry and a part time doorman, I haven't seen the place yet, I'll see it in a few days but my friend who did see it says it looks alright. The current tenant has a queen bed + small futon so that seems like a place big enough for me. Obviously its small, but apparently its pretty decent size for manhattan.
Is it normal to ask for 3 months deposit up front? Should I expect it all back?
Also, wheres a good place to buy a queen bed/box/metal frame? I need to spend about $350 max on it.
Thanks for your help, This forum is seriously a life saver!

not sure what's typical for someone who needs a guarantor, so cant comment on that.
as for the mattress, i was able to get a queen bed/frame for around $300, including delivery. just look online. there should be plenty of websites that sells cheap mattresses. you wont be getting some of quality or name brand tho, but it'll be decent. don't buy used mattresses from anyone cuz of bed bug problems.

You'd really want to live there? It's in the middle of a huge business district...

What's bad about it? Where are you going to get groceries? Dry cleaning? Shoe repair?

Who needs grocery stores? You can live on street food in that part of town
And there must be plenty of dry cleaners in the West 40's around 8th ave.
