I use Twitter for business. I follow a few industry "thought leaders" and news sources. I don't actually do any tweets myself though. I might start soon.

Twitter is a good way to get fast little bits of information out to people, so it works well for business and is a good supplement to other marketing/PR communication tools, if you can attract enough followers and be interesting to them.

I restrict Twitter and LinkedIn to professional use and I have a Facebook account which is for personal use. I don't "friend" any professional contacts in Facebook.

I am trying to use Twitter...but I find it SUPERdeeDuper LAME-O.
However, I can understand why some businesses would use it. It
sends live updates to all their clients, etc. But seriously, other than
that, who else really thinks that they are that important that they
need to update their status for their contacts? Do we HONESTLY
give a squat if you just woke up, are going to bed, or are heading out
to a party?

Twitter is heading down the facebook life path. Only middle-aged losers will be using it in a bit.

I never got Twitter, I think it is simply one aspect of Facebook (the "what are you thinking" part).

As for the 40+ increase in Facebook, I think it's a fad, just like it is for the younger set. I'm in my early 40s and my sister in law convinced me to try Facebook last January. I immediately had a lot of friends from high school who "found" me. All of them were new to Facebook too. Now about 2/3 of them don't really bother with Facebook anymore (the rest are "Facebook junkies" though, I fall somewhere in between the "junkie" and don't use at all, I use it more when I'm less busy).

The poster is sort of right. For a certain segment of the population which is always looking for the next new hot thing, Facebook is so 2005. lol.
