I just
heard about a shooting on the Concourse and 203 street. I just biked past there around the time it happened. That is scary, looks like the bad stuff is moving up past bedford Pk

Unfortunately, yes, a lot of the bad stuff that used to haunt areas south of the Cross Bronx is moving up into the 200s. I think it's mostly teens that have too much time in their hands and don't have the motivation to thrive in schools. As a result, beautiful buildings are being vandalized with graffiti and broken windows.

A lot of those buildings in the 200's are coops and the owners are allowed to rent them out. A lot of the owners no longer live in the building any more.

I've lived in Bedford Park for more than 5 years. Crime has gone down every year since I've been here, this year too. But stuff happens, even north of Bedford Park Blvd. It doesn't mean that the neighborhood is going to hell in a handbasket. It's way better than when I moved in.

I live in Riverdale
but I make it my business to bike over by Bedford Park at least once or twice a week. I do that because the Bedford Pk area is potentially nice in many ways but on certain blocks at least I don't think many people see it that way. Valentine Ave all the way up to 204th is granules of broken glass tho the other avenues seem OK. But there are only a few blocks that really show the commmunity pride(201 and Bainbridge, Perry, Marion for example). I hope this area gets better, it's really a place that has great potential

Bedford Park isn't Riverdale by any stretch of the imagination, but it really has improved in recent years. Some blocks have more problems than others. Sometimes you have a nice block with one rotten building on it that creates problems. However, recently there have been quite a few new people moving in looking to improve the area.
Anyway, it's not considered the Central Bronx.

you guys should start a thread on the bedford park section, and some of the othere sections, or continue threads already started. people seem interested in the bronx and others that live there are encouraging them to come check it out. you should stick with the areas specifically questioned about in the original post, this would go for any bronx thread.
otherwise you are all over the place and people reading these threads, that are new to the city, and/or have never really been to the bronx, except maybe right across the bridges, from manhattan, and those areas right across the bridges, may not be attractive, will just get turned off of the entire bronx.
you would want people to come and venture into other areas.
only if you are familiar with the bronx will you be able to know which areas most of you are referring to.
this thread has mentioned bedford park, moshulu parkway, fordham, kingsbridge, highbridge, and morrisania, and university heights. all quite different from mt eden.
some of these areas are attractive, safe and good for people that are looking for reasonably priced neighborhoods. this is just a suggestion. the bronx is coming back up, and people need to know more about it, so make it easier for them to understand it.

thanks bluedog2, you are one of the posters that keep us all informed of your area, and other areas of the bronx. as for this area mt eden, in the central bronx, i have been checking out the bronx lebonon hospital online, all the good changes and updates there, will go long way in revitalizing this area.
also the apt that my friend moved out of, to buy a house in nj looks very similiar to the one pictured online for that pelham parkway thread also on this forum. there are art deco buildings in this mt eden area, with the sunken living room and the dining area outside of the kitchen. with the large rooms. imagine these apts used as part of the shelter system. pressure has to be put on these landlords. i hope they coop these buildings like they have in your area, and restore the apts to their former glory.

DAS, I agree it's confusing. I was just responding to rlrl's comment. Actually we've discussed this area in other threads ad nauseum. Someone interested could review the old threads.
