There has been a steady declining trend, as Puerto Ricans have been leaving NYC over the last 15 years. It is very noticeable in East Harlem (Spanish Harlem doesn't really exist anymore) and certain Brooklyn neighborhoods, but there are still a lot of Puerto Ricans in the Bronx. I would think they still make up the majority of Hispanics in the BX.

But it can't be long before Dominicans end up outnumbering them, especially with the HUGE increase they've had in just the last decade.

I don't know, it's hard to say. A lot of Dominicans end up leaving once they get a better economic situation, and NYC isn't the automatic spot for new Dominican immigrants to go to anymore like it was years before. Lookout for Mexicans. A lot of mexicans in the BX now. Wasn't like that a few years ago.

Yeah, I never saw a single Mexican living in my neighborhood until a few months ago.

Citywide Dominicans will outnumber Puerto Ricans very soon. However there are Puerto Rican areas in the Bronx with small Dominican populations. Like the examples I gave. There is a big increase in Dominicans north of Fordham Road though. Only Puerto Rican pocket north of Fordham Road is east of the Grand Concourse south of Bedford Park Blvd. The Dominicans have blown up west of the Grand Concourse south of Fordham Road but still share the neighborhoods. They are more heavy furthur west, especially around University/Jerome where they are the majority. The areas east of the Grand Concourse, south of Fordham Road are still dominantly Puerto Rican.

Mexicans also getting big numbers, but nothing in comparison to PR's and DR's. They definately are taking East Harlem though.

I read about the Mexican increase in an article a few weeks ago. In 2006, for the first time, Mexican births outnumbered Dominican births.

Overall though they are behind. They are a pretty recent group to the city in such large numbers.

I'm not making this up....
Took the 4 train down to the city a couple of weeks back. It was maybe 7pm on a Saturday. I was minding my own buisness reading the paper when the train stopped at 125th st. I looked up and i saw 3 Mexican guys dressed in cowboy hats and boots and musical instruments. I stared at them for a second and was like "what the f'k?" then all of a sudden they ran into the same train as I was in before the door closed and once it started going south they busted into some mariachi music. There was literally a Mexican guy banging away on his HUGE bass guitar about 3 ft from my head. It was such an absurd situation I started to laugh and had to stare at the floor out of embarassment. When the train pulled into 86th st, just as soon as they had come in, played their Mexican song, and passed their cowboy hat around, they jumped off.
Has anyone else experienced this before? Am I going to have to deal with Mariachi-music playing beggars when I ride the subway now?

Brilliant. Never experienced that, but I do see this Mexican with F'cked up eyes trying to sell mini-fans or something. He comes out at the most random times and when you suddenly see him, you can't help but laugh at how he's looking at you with those eyes.

So, I hate to bump an old thread, but I honestly feel the need to say something.
This thread is the most biased thing I have ever seen on this entire board. What Hustla718 spews is so unfair, calling it crap would be an injustice.
Thank you to fsrg for having truly remained levelheaded and having given useful responses, in spite of the heavy opposition.
I mean, Lord. I would like to leave the Bronx, but for different reasons. What Hustla says makes the Bronx look like an uncivilized jungle. Things are really not that bad everywhere in the Bronx - although it seems that to him, every single area is crime and drug-ridden. There are bad pockets, no one is saying no, but that is not true of every single area.
Wow. This is seriously upsetting.
