On a sidenote I think what's currently keeping Fordham/Bedford from being gentrified is the B train. If the B line was fixed properly and ran well, the D could run express most of the time, instead of running local so much. If that happened tons of people would move to the area in a heartbeat. The B line is easily one of the top 3 least reliable lines in the city.

There's no doubt the Bronx can be a bad place, but if your looking at it from a 1983-1987 precpective, of course it's going to be hell on earth. I think like the rest of the city, it's gone from totally unliviable to simply a bad neighborhood.

Personally, I was in the borough as recently as the 4th of July, and I can agree with the fact that Bedford Park and Norwood have completely fell apart. However, I can say that the areas around the stadium have stablizied.

I don't think the Bronx will ever truly gentrify. As Brooklyn continues to gain wealthy citizens, slowly but surley, the Bronx will become the last true bastion of low-income housing. I do however feel that the excellent rapid transit access and low cost could turn the very lower areas into something most people would consider decent.
I agree with what you say except for what is in bold. I used to work the 42nd precinct until very recently (next precinct over). I still work in a nearby area. I can tell you the areas around Yankee Stadium have been and will be **** for years to come. Most of the buildings are only for low income families and there is a very strong drug trade in the area. One of my favorite recent shootings near the stadium was a career drug dealing perp who was shot about 20 times with an AK-47 on Walton Avenue. Gun was never recovered. What a nice neighborhood...

Too far from Midtown, another 15 minutes on the train will give you Westchester County. Area is still recieving an influx of low income families as well.

What about the countless people who commute to midtown from Westchester? What you said makes no sense.

If the D train ran express more it would be fine. When it runs express it gets to columbus circle, Rock center, and 42 and 6th quick.

Also from what I'm seeing when I visit the Bronx is trying to turn itself around
case in point, the Yankee's 800 million for a new stadium and 500 million deal to replace the Bronx Terminal Market, a developer L & M Equities is building
a couple of buildings on Third Ave. and 156th St. and most buyers are from the Bronx as well as other boroughs.

In the last 4 yrs almost 34,000 new units of housing have been built or are under way to be built. Property values have jumped 76% in the last 4 yrs.
This is all good for the Bronx, I hope I will see the day when you will be able
to walk the streets safely and neighbors will watch out for one another.
Times are changing and I believe the Bronx's time has come.

Bronx girl, born and raised.........proud to be from The Bronx.

What I am saying is just that. Why live in that neighborhood when you could live in Westchester. 15 minutes more and higher quality of life.

Stadiums aren't always a good thing. The South Bronx just lost even more greenspace. There is a severe greenspace shortage in the Bronx. Quality of life in that area is going to go even lower with increased traffic, less green space and larger crowds even on Jerome Ave. Those people are pissed they are building that stadium across the street from their buildings. They also just lost a park, although run down it contained the only running track in the area. Along with the only soccer/football field.

The new stuff on Third Ave and E 156th Street is public housing by the way. NYCHA.

If I may. People who live in Westchester tend to take Metro North which is a far cry from the D or B Train. And to avoid the D or B is part of why they live in Westchester.

Now, focusing on people who prefer to live in the city, the D or B to Fordham might, someday at least, prove to be a potential alternative. At this time though, you would have to traverse through the South Bronx. Coming home late on those trains can be very dicey and its not going to appeal to alot of people.

That's not to say I do not hope it happens, but its a long way off.

I've seen plenty of ghetto people in Metro North trains, there not that much better. Some of the stations are pretty gross too.

I agree about the B and D though. The B line is garbage. But it would be nice if they fixed the B and ran the D pretty much express except maybe really late at night. I think it would work wonders for the Bronx.

Yeah but most of those people would choose westchester regardless. I was talking more along the lines of keeping people here in the boroughs. Middle class people who can't really afford westchester but might not want to leave the city.

Isn't the bronx the borough with the most greenspace, and parkland. Comparitively other boroughs are faring much worse in that department. The Bronx actually could use more development, whereas other boroughs need less and need to stop developing.

Did you get to see the video of the New Rochelle PD kicking all the Bronx/Harlem teens out of New Roc City and into the Metro North past Easter? What a mess. First they were kicked out the car show in Manhattan by NYPD due to gang activity and a stabbing so the bulk of them went to New Roc City. When they got there they started causing trouble. 3 teens from the Bronx were arrested for assualting police. Shots were fired and the cops litterally pushed them back into the trains.

Back to the ghettos of NYC you go! Haha.

Here is a video from a Bronx teen depictiing the story. Haha:

City is a rip off for the middle class, that is why they flee.

Re-read what I wrote. Over 50% of the parkland is concetrated on the Northern Border or Bronx Park. Bronx Park is mostly the Bronx Zoo and Botanical Gardens so you can't enter the southern half unless you are going to the Zoo. The borough might have the most parkland but it is all concentrated far from where most of the population lives, or it is inaccessible at all.

Unless you consider vacant lots in the South Bronx greenspace.
