A little more dicey? Please name a a location in the whole USA with more drug activity then 194th/196th + Decatur, Bainbridge, Valentine. One of the busiest drug corridors in the USA. Area is a screwed up ghetto. That little area has had 3 people shot in the last week.

Teachers are probably a good source of info about neighborhoods when they teach in locally zoned schools... my mother taught HS in Bensonhurst and she said it went from being a good school in the 80's to a shthole starting the late 90's... she now teaches at edward r murrow in midwood which was also a decent school initially but is now becoming quite bad because of all the non-zoned students from e.ny (the latter has more to do with bloomberg's retarded idea that mixing poorly performing students with the rest is going to raise poorly performing students' scores). i live in midwood (the 10's near j), and i used to live on the midwood flatbush border (the e.30's near j and i). midwood is completely orthodox now, not a car in the street on saturday, very nice neighborhood but everything is super expensive. better deals to be found where i used to live, but even that area has turned from semi-ghetto (by brother was mugged and had the crap beaten out of him in the late 80s) to orthodox jewish (i.e. pricey).

Default Van Cortlandt Village

What do you know about the area around Fort Independence Park? This area is called Van Cortlandt Village, the northern part of Kingsbridge Heights. How often does the BXM3 Express Bus come around? How long does it take to get to the Upper East Side?

The BXM3 comes along very often on weekdays because many residents still work in Manhattan. On weekends, it comes once per hour. I don't know how long it takes to get to the Upper East Side, though, but I'd assume that if it takes 35-45 minutes to get to Midtown it takes less to get to the UES.

Default NY TIMES 'Living In'

Check out nytimes.com. If you click on real estate and then on and scroll down you'll se a 'Living In' article. Here's the link:

It's about Fordham. THey refer to Fordham a s a 'neighborhood in waiting.' Sounds like the Bronx is on the upswing. Or maybe this is part of the grand conspiracy to lie about the Bronx mentioned by Hustla.

I live in Fordham it is the Ghetto. No if, and's, or but's. There are some very bad blocks around there. My block happens to be one of the better ones. But as I've pointed out on this forum before there are varying degrees of Ghetto. Overall, Fordham is definitely not one of the worst ghetto's in the city.

The interesting thing about Fordham is that there are quite a few young professionals (mostly Black, Asian, and Latino), myself included, in the area mixed in amongst all the ghetto folk. I see them all the time on my way to and from work. And it is a great shopping area. You can literally get anything over there. It's an interesting place to say the least.

On a side note Jerome Avenue has to be one of the ugliest string of blocks in NYC. I'm talking mostly aesthetically. It looks right out of some gritty 70's/early 80's NYC movie scene.

Spare me the NY Times bull****. The Times called the South Bronx "up and coming" in the early 1980's. The came the crack epidemic. All those newspaper reports are motived by real estate interest. $$$!!! The neighborhoods highlighted on that map are really ghetto and not even the areas we are discussing. That swath is actually more then just one hood unlike what you see on the map.

I agree that the NY times does have real estate motivations at times. Those real estate ads pay them good money. But the article was actually pretty accurate and fair I thought.

I don't know what exactly this area is since it's between the D trains of Fordham and Kingsbridge. I really like the small Asian markets on Valentine Avenue.
in the daytime its safe enoughbut not in the night
you said about vancortland i live about 5 minutes away from vancortland park south one of the nicest area&the train is right there you should look into where i'm at around broadway where the 1 train goes

What's wrong with the map? Looks accurate to me.
