I agree 100% with Hustla. Guywithacause, some posts of yours raise eyebrows. You seem to say everything is great in Mott Haven and then go on to compare Mott Haven with Morris Park. Then you say there's absolutely no threat of crime on Fordham rd, which is ridiculous.
I mean it's great that you see the positives in the community, but to completely disregard the neighborhoods past and current history...and all the crime/poverty/drugs that come along with it is insane. By reading your posts, a poor sap not from here would think Mott Haven is some sort of paradise in the tropics!

SuperMario...see my post about Fordham rd...you just needed a clarification. Clearly as a reasonable person, everything is far from great in Mott Haven, and I do not dispute the crime that occurs, or that Hustla suggests. The difference is, HUstla will always see the glass half-empty, and I see it half-full...furthermore...I do not dismiss the crime.....I just don't focus only on that, whereas Hustla will only focus on the negative and claim all the investment, new homes, retail, commercial businesses, parks, and new faces are all pointless, a waste of time, and make no positive impact...clearly that is unreasonable...and that is where we differ.

That is just not so. Guywithacause always includes the caveat that of course there is crime, but the point is that it is just not true that you must fear for your life the minute you step out the door. Again, if you don't wander the streets late at night, your chances of being a victim (esp of violent crime) are much lower. Robberies happen on Fordham, but it is not the kind of constantly harrowing scene that is painted by Hustla at all. Sorry--but I live directly off Fordham and walk it every day.
Misquoting (try to find an actual quote where Guy says what you said above) is really being unfair here. You're putting words in his mouth--quite literally.

Here you go.

However, it is perfectly safe to walk and shop on Fordham, if you can deal with the crowds that is!

You might actually want to look for what is being discussed and not just comment.
As for crime on Fordham Road it is a very real threat. There are a lot of phone/ipod snatches on that strip. So considerable there is a very real chance you will get your phone snatched if you carry especially a Nextel or Sidekick 3. The same goes for every retail strip in low income areas across the 5 boroughs. These snatches are epidemic the same way chain snatches were a big thing in the 1970's. Gangs of youth litterly wait for people on these strips especially with these particular items. They sell fast and easy to steal. The owners are usually in their own little world and have the typical (can't happen to me attitude).

For a one bedroom, yup. Thankfully, the Manhattanites moving here aren't Yuppies (well, most of them aren't, not all) so the prices remain suitable for a middle class family/person.

How about for a couple working part time and commuting to school in the city?

If you guys can afford to drop down $850-$950 a month for a 1 bedroom, or $650 a studio, you'll be fine.
If your school is in Midtown, we have a bus for that, too (BXM3).

I'd be set with a $650 studio. I want to be able to take the 2 bus to e204th st to do my weekly shopping. Also, I'm not a big fan of the express bus. I'd rather take the 1 train downtown. And take the 26 bus to work

That works too, taking the 1 to downtown.
