Oh, I walk on that street, sidewalk thing, from Fordham avenue to 183 street. What can I say, I was curious. Honestly I did not see anything in the daytime, but like you say, night time could be a different story. And I probably will believe you. It is the hood. I even had some chicken and tostones at that Peacock Restaurant. Lol. Not that good.

Peacock lol....I know what you're talking about. But seriously there's a serious drug problem in that block. A ghetto is a ghetto day or night IMO. A few more thugs come out at night, but for the most part daylight doesn't make a ghetto.

I grew up on Creston & 184th St in the 60's. We lived in a ground floor walk-in apt and in the summer my mother would leave the door unlocked so that she didn't have to keep opening it for me and my 3 brothers. We also would leave our bikes on the street unchained without ever having a problem. I went to elementary school at PS33 from 59-65. I remember my mother taking me the 1st day, after that I was on my own. I can remember driving through the "old" neighborhood with my daughter one time and I saw hookers working Jerome Ave by PS33. I just couldn't believe my eyes.
However being a member of this and other similar boards sure brings back the memories.
Thanks again.

Honestly I think Fordham/Uni Heights varies a lot block by block. Around where I live there are some ghetto ass blocks I make sure to avoid like just a few blocks down from me. But my block is quiet and my building is really quiet too. I've also been around other blocks that aren't bad.

Agreed....the area is block by block in fordham. I like the proximity to all the greenery, like the Zoo and Botanical Gardens, the influx of new people from Fordham, all the new commercial and residential development, as well as the metro north station that scoots me into the city pretty darn fast and comfortably. Eating around Arthur Ave is always cool too.
I can do without the shopping in fordham, but it serves the community so its fine.
