That's the thing I avoid those streets like the plague.

Nobody has said Fordham is a great neighborhood. And regarding Hustla...its easy to have a "greatest piece of work" when you are stating the obvious "Fordham is not a good neighborhood." Yes he was very intuitive as it took a great mind and vision to see the obvious! Lol...
That being said....those particular blocks of the central Bronx, I believe, are probably the worst. I find large swaths of the central Bronx and North Bronx to be far more undesireable as a whole than the South Bronx...then again..I am biased.

RE: what happened Saturday night. The story was in the paper this morning. It was sort of a random crazy thing. It is very sad. Young kid, 21 years old, shot in the head. He's in St. Barnabas in critical condition. The guy who shot him was some drunk psycho. Really unfortunate.

Most every neighborhoods have particularly bad intersections. 182nd and Crotona in E. Tremont........227th WPR in Wakefield........176th and University in Morris Heights etc.......the problem with many of those south Bronx neighborhoods is that the projects make up many blocks. For example, Mott Haven has projects galore. Those projects take up ALOT of area. So in the case of Mott Haven is not necessarily hot corners, but more like hot areas. Dont forget you're typical 6 story tenements in Mott Haven.
*I am not picking on Mott Haven, this goes for the other "projects city" neighborhood in the Bronx like Melrose and Morrisania.

Yes as the projects tend to have higher crime, I would agree with that statement. I am just noticing the repeated posting of violent, random crimes in the central Bronx, whereas I do not see/hear about the same in Mott Haven (as often). Which further supports my assertion that I am in fact more comfortable in and around Mott Haven/Melrose versus MUCH of the central Bronx, and judging from the changes/investments that are occuring in the South Bronx, others likely feel the same way. The central Bronx is following a very similar pattern to Central Brooklyn (East NY, Bed-Stuy, etc)......comments?

Yeah, I have noticed a lot of crime in the central Bronx too. At least more "reported" crime. But crime must be happening somewhere in Mott Haven/Melrose because these neighborhoods were among the worst in terms of crime. Just because it's not reported does not mean it happens. I agree with you that the south Bronx has alot of new buildings going up. A lot of the lots have been filled with new housing. While they make look nicer than 70+ year old tenements, it's still low income housing. But nevertheless, the neighborhoods look nicer. I cant comment on Brooklyn because I don't know much about it.
You know where I hear most of the crime coming from? The north Bronx. Check out the 47th and 50th precinct. A huge spike in crime. Is it just me or does anybody else notice Wakefield/Kingsbridge/Norwood on the news alot lately.

I agree SuperMario..although the new housing NOW going up is affordable housing, which is generally from $25,000-$60,000 depending on family size...the most needed housing in the city. Furthemore, there is more mixed income housing going forward..look to see ALOT of it in Melrose around 161st.coming soon.
I agree with the central and North Bronx these days...as the focus has now been on Mott Haven as of late, with increased patrols, manpower, investment, and overall attention, the North Bronx and central Bronx SEEMS to be suffering from similar or worse problems. My comparison to Brooklyn is merely that arguably the WORST neighborhoods there are in central Brooklyn....and I see that pattern manifesting itself in the Bronx...with those closest to the city on an upswing, and central parts languishing. Just my observation and the crime that SEEMS to be overwhelming the central and certain Northern areas.

Hi Guy - I think you're wrong. North bronx does not have the population density that the south bronx has. If you take the my area for example a huge portion of the crime comes from edenwald, boston secor projects. the projects form a small proportion of the over all population so even though there is crime, it is more centralised to the project blocks and surroundings.
whiteplains rd has isolated incidents of crime but it is no where near as hot as eden wald where they have break ins and robberies often.
Now in teh southern bx, you have much higher population densities with most of the residents being lower income/public housing and hence the increased likely hood of "stuff" to happen. I think you being more "comfortable" in the south bx probably has more to do with you being familiar with the area. Just like I'm familiar with the high bridge areas just north of yankee stadium, but supermario swears it is fallujah. -- oh well

What is a HUGE spike in crime? what 25% increase? 10%? I mean you hear a few stories here and there on news12 and then JUMP to a conclusion. Considering I live in the 47th pct area - I will be the one to tell you there is no HUGE SPIKE in crime around here.
