You can't predict - it depends on the way the plane is routed. But the PORT side is your best bet.

Thanks for all your answers, folks, and I do mean all. For the record, I meant no harm by asking an honest question, and I never said that all New Yorkers feel this way. I just wanted to understand the mindset I described in my original post. For me, New York will always be a great place to visit. Ditto Brisbane, Sydney, London, Manchester, etc. The world is a very big place. Peace to you all. Farewell.

I was on my way to work, and there was a huge line behind us, so I had to bite my tongue.
I am in the process of moving to a more laid-back city in the midwest that has an incredibly vibrant cultural scene (music, theatre, film, the literary arts), beautiful natural surroundings, and a friendly down-to-earth spirit. To each his or her own, I always say. I love the cultural scene here in New York City so much that I know that I will back to visit or vacation. I will make New York City one of my getaways and will more than likely come back to work on artistic projects or teach. Great. But what's up with the (I think) defensiveness that my moving seems to be invoking in die-hard New Yorkers? As in, "What are you thinking? There is no place like New York City!" Ok... uhm... But whose making comparisons? Not me, man. Peace... Dang...

The guy at the deli might have been rude, but he tells the truth. Many people underestimate the importance of New York City. The New York Stock Exchange and Wall Street play a huge factor in the economy of North America and the world. When people talk about top cities in the world, New York City will be the only city mentioned in North America. As you can see from this link, New York City is ranked Alpha++. The only city on the level with New York City for importance in the world is London. GAWC World Cities Ranking List

From the people I've met in NYC, few of them actually believe NYC is the center of the universe--they think it's a great and influential city, and possibly a great fit for them, but "center of the universe" is way too much. The few people I've met who do think of NYC in this way were usually not very well-traveled or knew much about the rest of the world (be they transplants or natives). As for the GAWC link, it's pretty obvious that their methodology places a very large emphasis on international finances and business links. Even if we were to go by the list, the fact that there are two cities means there is no center.

Shhhh...that's the proof of our contention that New York really is the center of the universe! If it wasn't, nobody would obsess.

I know very few people who think that NYC is the center of the universe..and they are all desperate idiots. Normal people with common sense would laugh at a comment like that.
