The City is expensive. If you went to a ShopRite - in Lodi, NJ or Passaic, you would pay a lot less than you do in NY. It is not the WalMart that is necessarily less expensive, but the location.

Default I went in

to Walmart in White Plains to get a shopping bagholder(it's made of some kind of weaved materials and you stuff plastic bags inside it then hang it on the wall) that my brother and his wife got at their Walmart in Atlanta. I even called the manufacturer to make sure the White Plains Walmart had it and the manufacturer said they did(they even gave me a code # to tell the store employee so i could locate it because it's a huge store)

it was nowhere to be found, no one in the store could tell me where it was despite my giving them the item #, one bright employee came to the conclusion that they no longer carried the item

Any WalMart I have ever been in, I have walked out in disgust, either not having something normal like an emergency restock of printer ink (for a common printer, not a specialized one) on the shelf, or the store being absolutely chaotic, disorganized, and dirty. That's my experience, and even the one in White Plains that was supposed to herald a new day for WalMart in urban locations, and if that's the vision they want to bring to Union Square -- there goes the neighborhood. WalMart pales in comparison to other discounters like Target, Costco, and BJs, IMO.
i only go to walmart for specific things that i know they carry there that are cheap. otherwise the majority of my grocery shopping is at costco. for $300, i can get what would cost me $500-$600 in any other groecry store, and the quality is much better (meat, fruit, etc).

A gallon of milk at Wal Mart is $2.49 and they always have cases of water priced between $2.99-3.99 depending on the sale of the week.

Actually, I think that's their fashion office, since they switched buyers from Arkansas to New York in order to try to upgrade their clothing stock. But, I agree that they cannot touch other retailers' quality, no matter if the office is in New York because they're not equipped to pay a few cents extra per piece to get a better product.

walmarts stuff aside from food isnt the greatest... alot of stuff is made to their spec and only made for them... price point is a big concern... quality and performance is 2nd....they dont have the staff either to ask questions to either about anything more complex then a toaster. even that they are not really knowledgable on...

they are no match for a retailer with hi end or better end items.. as i said earlier people love to repeat how walmart puts the little guy out of business but in alot of cases its far from the truth and like home depot did to our business it brought more people to the area to discover our small business and we did better thanks to them.. and we were a competing business.......

Good for them, WALMART has been a blight on America. Hundreds of factories and tens of thousands of small businesses are closed because of their predatory policies. The children of more than half of their employees rely on the state for Medical Care. I'd sooner do without than shop there

just wondering where all those employess would be working with paid medical benefits if they werent working at walmart and why arent they there? ... i dont know about you but i dont know any mom and pop stores who offer paid medical . if anything there maybe specialty or high end stores that may offer benefits but they wouldnt be hurt by walmart in the least...... i think it sounds good to bash walmart and blame them for everything from cancer to troubles in iraq but the reality is its alot of who shot john....

the reality is they are at walmart because there are no other high paying jobs with benefits these people have access to...

we have a home in the poconos and the reality is there is little work for the locals anywhere up here...walmart opened up and provided jobs that these people never had access to locally....

yeah they could earn more traveling 1-2 hours away but the costs and time of commuting make walmart the better deal at the end of the day...they get discounted health insurance, 401k's and paid holidays and sick time...its alot more then vito's pizzaria offered them..

think about the long island stores, why do people work there ? they certainly have other choices as there are stores of every shape and form all along old country road..... forget right now as there are no jobs anywhere but when times were good people flocked to work at walmarts when they opened....why do you suppose that is?
