Need a hip neighborhood for us and toddler in Manhattan or other borough???
Here is exactly what we are looking for:
1) A hip neighborhood in Manhattan. For us this means, good cafes, art galleries, little interesting shops. Artsy-ish kind of crowd. International vibe (my husband is from Europe and we lived in Asia for a while).
2) A one bedroom with a den OR a two bedroom. We don't need two bathrooms, just one. Something around $2200-$2500.
3) Some place SAFE for our child (19 months).
4) A place that has a couple tiny parks for kids to play at somewhere in the area.
My husband doesn't have a job yet there so we are just merely looking into good places to live in Manhattan. He doesn't care about his commute time as he's been doing an hour commute for the past 6 years.
Any opinions would be SO appreciated!! Thanks!

Sounds like you want the East Village, West Village or Chelsea. Whether you can get something in your price range is another matter.

ITA with the aforementioned areas. But the price range you're looking at would be more like $3000-$4000. Good luck.

Also, sorry, I know nothing about Manhattan. Is East village the upper east side? Are they the same thing? Thanks!

Ok. I looked up east side and upper east side. They are different. lol.
I also looked up some pricing in East Side, Soho, and Greenwich. There seems to be a bunch of places around $2500. Are these places going to be rough (i.e cockroaches etc??). Any thoughts?

Greenwich? Do you mean Greenwich Village? Because around here, Greenwich is in Connecticut.

Try Brooklyn - Williamsburg, Greenpoint or Carroll Gardens.

My chelsea studio is $2200. East village MAYBE you could find a 2 bedroom at that price. However I'm guessing most "2 bedrooms" are really one bedrooms w/the living room converted to a bedroom. Good luck i just did the whole apartment search thing...

East Village is lower Manhattan, part of Greenwich Village, which I'm sure you've heard of. Just plain "Greenwich" is a town in CT. If you have never heard of these places they are pronounced GREnidge. SOHO is also downtown.
