Well, you can't say the man doesn't know how to put up a good show! Everything in that piece looked perfectly fair and reasonable. Of course, what he doesn't bring up is the fact that the Mayor of New York City has very little input into what either MTA or DOT does--both being state agencies and not subject to the demands of our Mayor.

It would be nice if everything or mostly everything he said there could be done. But is he up for re-election soon? Even if he is I hope this gets done. Over the years the Port Authority was fixed up really nice from what it used to be, the old above street freight rail on the lower west side is now a nice walkthru garden...it'd be great if the transit system got a big overhaul. Unfortunately the money has to come from somewhere and it seems NYC has gotten stiffed out of stimulus money.

Ha, he even managed to sneak in tolls into the bridges under his plan. Its all political grandstanding and Bloomberg should be ashamed for proposing something he knows he will have no ability to fulfill.

The free crosstown bus thing while a nice idea reeks of trying to get votes, also I don't think it will help that much in the grand scheme of things. I for one think it would have been better not to raise the bus fare. I've always felt bus fare should be cheaper than train fare.

I read in the paper that he has four votes and is part of the board. Is that always the case?

Can't do that though since it would push people to take the buses, meaning more people would take them, more buses would be required, and more traffic would be on the streets as opposed to underground.

I see your point, but ironically this is what Bloomberg is proposing now. You can argue more lazy people will get on the free bus instead of walking crosstown.

I've just never like the concept of paying the same for bus service.

Also more people using the bus might not necessarily be a bad thing, it might speed up a lot of train lines.

They could eliminate a lot of bus stops or speed up the paying process, use more bus-only lanes. There are a lot of things that could be done to improve bus service.
