Yes there are. You will never be more than a block away from sustenance I assure you of that. In manhattan especially food is never more than a phone call away or a block away 24/7. A 24/7 drug store is usually within 3 blocks away from anywhere. You will always have 24/7 deli within a few blocks with good, cheap sandwiches.
I would get rid of the car if you can, because even if you don't use it, you still need to park it. Don't even bother with that.
As for $700 in Manhattan, that's going to be tough. No matter what you are going to need to live with roommates. In Brooklyn $700 is very possible. In Manhattan I think on the lowest end you would need about $900.
