My great-aunt who used to live in an elevator bldg. in Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn had an upright piano. So it is possible to have a piano in a NYC apt.!

Yes, but we were talking about WALK UPS. NOT elevator buildings. Getting a piano into an apartment in an elevator building is easy - in my parents' home it was put ON TOP of the elevator because it didn't fit inside.

I have a digital piano, which is a lighter weight option. It also has the advantage of a headphone jack, so you can practice anytime.

If you look at the original question at the beginning of this thread, the person only asks about having a piano in an apt. in NYC. It doesn't say specify that it has to be a "walk-up" apt.!

It's pretty hard to get it in the apartment. I don't think most places care as long as you don't disturb neighbors.
Also from my experience generally most walk-ups in the city have no elevators. None. Zilch. Nada.
