Default question about garbage collection

Hello,
I recently moved to a wonderful area (park avenue on 95th) in a cosy one bedroom apt for a reasonable price (1400$). The area is wonderful but I have big issues with throwing the garbage. where I've always lived until 2 weeks ago (Italy) there are big garbage bins on the streets and you can use them whenever needed but here... the only ones I can see on the street are tiny and not for house grabage at all. So my question is: where can i throw big boxes and bags full of trash away? I'm furnishing my apt and I'm full of Ikea carton boxes!!! I've been told that sometimes in the basement of buildings they have storage rooms for garbage but not in my case. I saw some people living in the area placing their garbage in front of their houses so that the truck can pick it up still it seems that it doesn't happen on a daily basis. Please help, I'm desperate...You should see my small apartment packed with trash!

Talk to the superintendent in your building: it's likely he'll ask you to take the boxes apart so that they're flat and can be tied up with some twine. Then he'll put them out with the rest of the trash on the scheduled pick-up days.

Please note that it's actually illegal to put household trash into the Department of Sanitation trash bins located on every street corner!

Go to this website: www.nyc.gov/sanitation Here you will find a link to find out the trash collection & recycling days for your area. Currently your area is serviced by Manhattan 8 garage for these services.
