Q8 is not the only district that stays out in Queens. Some garages are dived also. In essence, to dump is to run. There are routes that you can "kinda" take your time and still get done around lunch; so you can say "oohhh I'm not running." But the vast amount of routes, if you take your time, your coming out after lunch.
Truth is the Department is negligent in ANY safety training whatsoever. They are HORRIBLE. They encourage on a daily basis ALL KINDS of illegal behavior and unsafe work practices in the name of productivity.
If you trip on the sidewalk, slip on the ice, fall out of the truck, hit with flying debris from hopper, hit by car, truck slides on ice,...... They write on your LODI/Accident form, "Must watch your step, worker must be more careful, etc., etc."
If you actually followed every safety procedure all day, like standing safely on the side of the truck until the ENTIRE hopper cycle is finished and filled the hopper up to "water level", EVERY ROUTE WOULD BE IN DANGER OF COMPLETION. Take every brake, wait for every light. Do your full PRETRIP!! Q8 is given a full half hour to leave the garage in the morning.
The big problem with all of this is....is that we are going to be held to these productivity standards and slowly pressured into more and more. When in reality we are giving them an unrealistic standard. With each new class of rookies, guys who really want the job and feel pressure to make management happy, we lose ground. That's why a longer probation period is bad.
JUST STAY OUT. IT'S AN 8 HOUR JOB.
