But the idea seems to be that no other city in the country can ever come close to New York in any category. There are other cities that have great art scenes, music, scenery, quality of life, architecture, etc. that make them great locations. And as far as NYC being the greatest city in the world..it's a matter of opinion. There are a lot of other international cities that can compete with New York on certain levels. To be honest I'd rather live in Barcelona given the chance..but that's just my opinion.

Other city in the country may come close but not to NYC. NYC being the greatest city in the world it is not matter of an opinion. Many people from all over the world dreams to live in NYC. So it is not an opinion. There is no city like NYC.

You don't have to hide behind Tokyo, London, Vienna to compensate for your jealousy of a larger than life city such as New York,...everything will be OK.
Saint Petersburg. Atlanta. Houston. LOL.

It's true...he's just trying to get us mad by saying Boise and St.Petersburg are on the level of NYC. Just ignore him. There's some jealousy.

No, maybe if I live there and haven't lived in any other place that's worth living in, I mean... How can you say that NYC is the best city in the world because you like it the most??

Good post!
And back on topic, of course NYC is not the BEST city, as a matter of fact, there really is no BEST city.

For me, no. Paris, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Rome, Sydney, Melbourne are all easily better than NYC.

This is a subjective question. Of course their is no right or wrong answer.
I like NYC, but I am not sure that I wouldn't say it is the best.
Personally, I would prefer a city like Berlin to NYC. Less expensive, not as crowded, but still very urban and vibrant, with a ton to see and do. But that is just me.

From my personal experience, I would say Tokyo is easily as impressive as NYC. I personally prefer NYC due to my taste in food, but NYC is not "better" for that reason. Everything else it would seem Tokyo is on par..skyline, density, shopping, dining, nightlife, and the transit system there is better due to high-speed rail connecting it to all outlying cities. The bullet trains of Japan are more impressive than anything we have here. Comfort, speed, and incredible efficiency.
I still prefer older European cities that are not as large, but more impressive from a historical standpoint and have more charm.
