Moving to glendale, queens
Hello. I'm thinking about moving at place place between Myrtle Ave and Cooper Ave in Glendale, Queens (just north of Forest Park Gold Course). I never lived in New York before and was wondering about the pros and cons of the area.

Pretty nice area, but somewhat isolated. Personally I would pick Middle Village or Forrest Hills over Glendale. Where are you planning on commuting to from Glendale? Someone will have to chime in with what commuting options are available from there, but I don't think there is a subway or LIRR station easily available from Glendale.
What area of the country are you coming from? That whole section of Queens has some CRAZY traffic and congestion. I mean other areas of the country have traffic jams, but this area of queens just has congestion going at all hours of the day and night.
Otherwise that area is fairly safe and respectable.

I miss it... a little
I grew up in Glendale. I live in Southern California now. My sister lives right at Cooper and Myrtle. If you own two cars, plan on running out during the night to move your car, IF you have a spot that is, near your house.
I miss the culture in Manhattan, etc., so I just visit now and then.

Va to Queens, Ny
My boyfriend and I are considering moving to Queens, I am not much of a city person so I am scared to make the move. Are there any safe, suburban type areas in Queens We could do up to 1800-2k for an apt or around 400k for a house. Accessibility to the train to NYC is very important. We do not have kids but may want to in the future so safety and good schools are important. Coming from Virginia anyplace that has a few trees would be wonderful but maybe that is wishful thinking

Try Forest Hills or Kew Gardens. They are not exactly suburban, but they are as suburban as you can get with excellent subway service to Manhattan.
You will not find a house for 400K in these neighborhoods but your rent price may be fine.
If you are ok with taking a bus to the train, then this opens up your options alot for suburban type neighborhoods in Queens.
Also, I've never been there but maybe someone could chime in about Bayside?
This may be a good option.

Half of Queens is pretty suburban (albeit very congested suburbs).
Bayside is really nice. I like that area a lot. Good public schools, decent little shopping strip with some restaurants, and a LIRR station on the edge of the neighborhood. Once the LIRR gets east side acces areas like Bayside will be golden.

Glendale is a very nice area. One of the few nice areas left in the city that is still pretty cheap. It doesn't have a subway line that runs through it, but you can take either the Q29 to Queens Blvd or Q55 to Myrtle/Wyckoff and take the L train. The neighborhood is mostly German and Italian, one of the few [if any] neighborhoods in the entire city with a noticable German presence.

Nabes like Little Neck(11362), Douglaston(11362), Bayside(11361), Whitestone(11357), and Bellerose(11426) are much like the kind of area you are looking for, but they are VERY expensive to live in. 400k WILL NOT GET YOU A HOUSE THERE. Maybe a condo, but you would have to get lucky. With the downturn in HOusing, you may get lucky though. If you want to search Real Estate by Zip code, I put the numbers in Parenthesis for you.
Good Luck!
