I think he definitely should've been punished with jail time but the sentence has not been relative to other celebrities and their crimes. That being said I think 2 yrs is about.
Also you're in NY carrying a concealed weapon...if you live around this area you know the gun laws around the NYC metro area are pretty much the most strict in the nation save for maybe one or two other states (NJ for example). Expect to be prosecuted hard if you're found with a gun.
Plus I would like to add the state of New York does not forbid legal handguns. Neither does New York City proper (although it is much harder in NYC). However it is lengthy process and there are a lot of attached steps and laws you are expected to follow. I don't have a problem with this. If you want to carry a handgun bad enough and are a responsible person you should be able to get through the process and follow the requirements.
I think the legal system is sick and tired of these athletes and celebrities doing what they want and thinking it's "ok" because they're "famous".
Yes, Plaxico Burress "only" shot himself. However, who does he think he is bringing a loaded gun into a night club full of people?? A gun he obviously can't handle. What if he would have "accidentally" shot someone in your family? Your son or daughter? Would you feel the same way?
Let him sit in prison, let him realize he's no more special than anyone else and he can't break the law simply because he's a football player.
He only got 2 years in prison --- I'm sure he'll be out on work release long before his 2 years are up. He'll be a big "hero" in prison simply because he's a football "star".
Forever being the jackass who shot himself is punishment enough.
