Many years ago, I saw Billie Jean King, Gilda Radner and Lorraine Newman (all separately). More recently, on a field trip with some students, I saw Dustin Hoffman (trying valiently to keep his face hidden by a scarf) dashing into an IMAX film. About a year ago, I did a TV episode with Jack McBrayer ("30 Rock"); more recently I was in a film with David Chokachi ("Baywatch"). Oh, and I appeared in a music video for the group Lifehouse, so I got to meet them along with the director of the video -- Kiefer Sutherland. (The last two weren't in NYC, though, so maybe they don't count ..... )

Within a block of our apartment, without trying to spot celebs, we've walked past: Kevin Bacon, Ron Howard, Goose Gossage, Jeff Daniels, Joy Behar, and countless other people you recognize from either commercials or smaller roles.

To be honest, I'm kind of surprised we don't run into more at the stores and restaurants near our place. Or hell, maybe we do and I just don't even realize it since I'm not looking for it.

Hmmm...didn't we 'do' this thread already?

When I was growing up, Charles Osgood was our next door neighbor, right in the next apartment. Walter Cronkite lived up the street and I saw him often walking his English springer spaniel. I've spotted David McCallum, Dustin Hoffman, Roy Scheider, Andy Rooney, Yoko Ono, James Stewart, Helen Hayes, Matt Lauer, Kofi Annan, Ed Bradley (shopping in Zabar)...I've met Peter Jennings, E.G. Marshall, Robert Reed (before he was Mr. Brady), Frank Stanton (former president of CBS), Isaac Stern, Joseph Heller, Sonny Fox (yes, I'm old). In my high school class were the daughters of Robert Ryan and Geraldine Fitzgerald (if you don't know who they were, look at the internet movie database), so we all met them, and my best friend in high school was Montgomery Clift's niece, who lived with her grandmother (Sunny Clift). Tim Curry, when he was in Spamalot, stopped me and my dog in the street ooh-ing and aaah-ing over my pug.

That's whom I remember for the moment. Not counting professional contacts...

Back when he was still on ESPN, I saw Rich Eisen on the train a few times. Daniel Sunjata at the airport and then shortly later on the same flight to Colombia. Mekhi Phifer on a date once in the Met, lol. Other than that pretty much every NYC-based rapper I've seen at some point or the other.
