hey ya'll...i have some questions for you....i live in fort lee, nj right now...leaving here soon to make my way back to the city...I am looking at Long Island City...They have gorgeous luxury apartments on the water decently priced...My questions are...How do you feel about Long Island City? Is it safe? Will I be able to walk around and go to the store in the middle of the night if i get hungry? AND How is the Vernon Boulevard-
Jackson Avenue station? Is it safe? Can I take the train the middle of the night to go to and from manhattan and not fear for my life(yes i'm a night owl lol) ... Let me know what you know...
yes it is safe over there however, nothing really stays open past 10pm, only the Chinese restaurant off of Vernon and I think the Sushi place in one of the East Coast Blgs. The park off of 48th and Vernon can be iffy but just exercise caution like in any other neighborhood overnight.
LIC is NOT safe at night. Especially Vernon Blvd, 21st Street or anywhere near Queensbridge Houses. In the daytime you won't have any issues. Just stock up or order in. Either that, or get a nice condo in Astoria where you can walk around at anytime of the night, there are way better food options, the trains are more easily accessible and its pretty much always safe.
The Waterfront is pretty safe at night, just beware of the cat-sized rats that roam.
I lived there for two years and didn't see any rats at all. I did see some in that area before I moved there, but really none for two years of living there. I didn't go right down to the park on the river all that much at night, though.
Vernon-Jackson is safe. Some of bars are open later, there's a 24-hour deli with all kinds of stuff. If you want more it's close to Williamsburg and, of course, Manhattan.
