Default I applied for NYCHA in 2003

I applied for NYCHA apartments in 2003. Why havent they contact me back yet?
Is it true that single parents get into NYCHA first?

First priority goes to homeless families and domestic violence victims then single parents.

if you applied that long ago you have to reapply they removed your application after three years. first priority goes to homeless and domestic violence. Now they just started a working family preference It depends on your situation but you should stay on top of them other wise they think you don't need it and you will wait an eternity

Don't feel so bad I applied when I was pregnant with my daughter in 1995 never was called. Re-applied when my kid was 5yrs old!!!! just got called back in September of 2009 and was told to wait for an apt in Latimer Gardens in Queens,NY it's now the middle of October and was told I am still on the waiting list. It takes forever and sometimes they even forget about you and your application falls through so you have to re-apply from scratch!!!!! I don't know if they do it intentionally or not but it's a horrible system........

I also had applied back in 1999 before I had a child and never gotten a response. I however had a child in 2001 and applied in March 2009. In July 2009 received a letter of available apartments, August 3rd had my appointment to bring all my documents. October 20, 2009 going to see an apartment. So this time around things are actually moving fast.

Thats really good, which apartment did you pick from the letter and what apartment did you go see October 20,2009. Were they decent and how much bedrooms did they approve you for? I applied like 3 times in 2009 twice for regular in may and June 2009 for the Staten Island Outreach, i recieve a letter saying they are willing to consider me for an apartment but i didnt get the letter with the list of apartments so i guess its the staten island outreach that contact me.
I have an appointment November 3, 2009 to bring in all my documents so im assuming ill be able to view and move into an apartment in about 3 months. The apartment is for my son and i , im not sure if we would qualify for a 2 bedroom or a 1 bedroom.

Anything would be perfect.

Let me know how it went for you.

I feel sorry for those who have to apply 2 and 3 times before they actually get it . I applied 2 months ago and I already have my interview in november. I let it be known I really needed it . I didn't waste no time in a shelter either. Good luck to everyone!

It took me only a year 1/2 from the time of application to be accepted into NYCHA. The working family preference is a top priority next to the homeless/domestic violence priority. Every other vacant apartment goes to a someone in the working family preference/
