Near Central Park or Times Square will be incredibly expensive. I wouldn't even recommend living near Times Square, it's all lights and pizazz and not a whole lot of "neighborhood".

Maybe Times Square itself. But I live at 42nd and 9th and there's a pretty vibrant neighborhood here - I obviously avoid most of the chain places in Times Square, but there's a good amount of non-glitzy and glamour places around, especially as you head further north on 9th.

And FYI to the OP, I pay $2500 for a 1 bedroom in that area.

First, you can't just 'move' to NYC, just as Americans can't just 'move' to France. You need a visa legal for working. You might want to check in the 'Legal Immigration' board if you don't have a sponsor and a valid visa.

I would NOT want to live in the Times Square area if you have two dogs. It's not really a nice area for dogs and if you want to get to Central Park, your Yorkshire terrier would never make the hike.

There are plenty of other parks in the city that one can live so they can walk their dogs there.

Well, there are two parks larger than Central Park - Van Cortlandt park in the Bronx, and Prospect Park in Brooklyn. I'm not sure of the area around Van Cortlandt, never been up there. But to the west of Prospect Park is Park Slope, one of the best neighborhoods in Brooklyn.

There's also a wide variety of parks which aren't either of those two - Dog Runs : New York City Department of Parks & Recreation lists those with dog facilities.

There are plenty of youtube videos on New york, also the bookstore, try craigslist to get a feel for the city. Look in the apt section, jobs, personals, etc....
