Default MOVING to the area.. in need of accurate info.

My family & I are moving to New York from a small town in Florida. We have family living in the Bronx, Long Island & Richmond Hill. We lived in Queens but it was over 15 years ago so I am unsure of the safe/affordable areas in Queens these days. We are looking at all possibilities in the surrounding areas of the city.. with easy access to the subway/transportation. Anyone that can help with a safe/family oriented/affordable area it would be much appreciated!

check out-

Forest Hills
Rego Park
Kew Gardens

I live in Jackson Heights now, and I am a block from the biggest train station in Queens. Its a little urban (I don't know how I could maintain a car), but it's safe. Most of Queens is safe now, depends on where you want to live, and what type of neighborhood you want to live in.

Depending on your price range, you might consider Pelham, which is the first town into Westchester from the City so you can get to the Bronx, Long Island and Queens easily, while getting great neighborhood schools, an easy commute to Manhattan (never more than 30 minutes) and no NYC income tax (which at the top end is almost 5%). Check out places in the Bronx (since you have family living here anyway.) Some nice areas are Riverdale, Wakefield, Pelham Bay, and Throggs Neck.
